Blog Awards – One Lovely Blog Award

blog awards new

Hi guys! Today I bring you more Blog Awards. I have a few blog awards and tags that I haven’t done yet so I’m trying to catch up. If you tagged me or nominated me for anything don’t worry I’ll end up answering it, I just don’t know when 🙂 . I was nominated to the One Lovely Blog Award by Cristina @ My Tiny Obsessions so thank you Cristina for the nomination 😀 .

Rules:one-lovely-blog-award-badge

  • You must thank the person who nominated you and include a link to their blog.
  • You must list the rules and display the award.
  • You must add 7 facts about yourself.
  • You must nominate 15 other bloggers and comment on one of their posts to let them know they have been nominated.
  • You must display the award logo and follow the blogger who nominated you. (not really…)

7 Facts About Myself:

  • I was born 3 days before the end of the 80s so I still consider myself a 80s girl;
  • I grew up listening to 80s songs. I may love pop music but I also love a lot of 80s songs (especially Bon Jovi and 80s movie songs);
  • Talking about movies… I never ever watched Star Wars. I want to but then I remember how long it will take me. Also, Dirty Dancing and Moulin Rouge are my favorite movies;
  • My favorite artists are Taylor Swift (I’ve been listening to her songs since her 1st album) and Imagine Dragons. Right now I also love James Bay and all of these artists have been my ringtone at some point in the last few years;
  • I mastered the skill of braiding my own hair through Youtube (let’s just say that I spend a lot of time on Youtube). Not normal braids but fishtail, french and others weird braids. I can do a fishtail braid in myself in less than 2 minutes;
  • I love celebrity gossip. It’s a guilty pleasure but I can’t help myself from doing it. And if you need to know something about celebrities just ask me, I normally know it;
  • I used to be obsessed with football (soccer if you’re from America). Now the only sports I watch are tennis, figure skating and MotoGP (I know… weird).

August Wrap-Up

Hi guys! We’re in the last day of August which means that it’s time to do my monthly wrap-up. I actually started the month pretty well and read 3 books in a week but the remaining weeks were just terrible. So these were the books I’ve read during the month of August.

The Girl’s Guide to the Apocalypse by Daphne Lamb – Review

The Girl's Guide to the ApocalypsePublication Date:

September 1st 2015

Publisher:

Booktrope

Goodreads Synopsis:

Welcome to the Apocalypse. Your forecast includes acid rain, roving gangs and misplaced priorities, in this comedic take on the end of the world as we know it, from debut author Daphne Lamb.

As a self-entitled, self-involved, and ill equipped millennial, Verdell probably wouldn’t have ranked very high on the list of those most likely to survive the end of the world, but here she is anyway. Add in travelling with her work addicted boss, her boyfriend who she has “meh” feelings for, and a handful of others who had no businesses surviving as long as they have, and things aren’t exactly going as planned. But despite threats of cannibalism, infected water supplies, and possibly even mutants, Verdell is willing to put in as little effort as she can get away with to survive.

Review:

*ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

I don’t know what to say about this book. I was expecting a funny book that it would show how to survive the Apocalypse. Unfortunately the jokes in this book weren’t for me. I just didn’t understand the humor and I had a hard time to finish this book.

This was a book with a big potential and the blurb looked interesting but I just didn’t enjoy to read it. There were a few chapters were the situations were funny and that’s the only reason why the rating for this book isn’t going to be lower. My main problem in this book were the characters. I understand that the author probably didn’t want to have a hero/heroine in this book and wanted them to have flaws but the characters were just a bunch of whiners and idiots who care a lot more about things that anyone should care about instead of caring about their friends and family. The main character made some bad decisions but it’s impressive how she was one of the smartest people on this book and still everyone tried to get rid of her.

Overall, this book had a lot of potential with some weird situations. However, I think that this type of comedy it’s not for me and it’s the main reason why I had problems with this book.

Rating:

2.5 stars

Have you read this book? If so, what did you think about it? If you haven’t read it would you read it?

Book Traveling Thursdays #4 – It is Almost Time to go Back to School

Today is thursday which means that is Book Traveling Thursdays, a weekly meme created by me and Danielle @ Danielle’s Book Blog. This weekly meme consists in picking a book related to the weekly theme that is announced in the group Goodreads page (if you want to join click here) at the beginning of each month. After that you can write a blog post where you explain why you choose that book and choose different covers from different countries. To make it a little bit easy you are going to choose different editions of the original cover, the cover from your country, your favorite cover, and your least favorite cover. This week theme is It is Almost Time to go Back to School which means that he have to choose a book that mostly occurs in a high school. For this week theme I decided to choose one of my favorite books ever, The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky.

Original Cover:

or

This is the cover that I see everywhere. I didn’t like this cover before but it’s something that grew on me and now I actually like it. I like how simple it is and that doesn’t show Charlie’s face.

Cover from my Country (Portugal):

brasil

Once again I can’t find the portuguese cover but I’m pretty sure that I saw the book around when the movie was released. I haven’t found the cover but I decided to share the brazilian cover first because it’s written in portuguese and also because I’m pretty sure that the books that I saw a few years ago had a similar cover to this one. Another reason why I decided to share this cover is Logan Lerman. He’s great and I try to use any excuse to have his face in this blog 😛 .

Favorite Cover:

favorite editions

I love both of these covers. They are just beautiful in their own ways. I can’t even find a thing that I don’t like in these covers.

Least Favorite Covers:

least favorite

I don’t know what these people had in their minds but these covers are just terrible. I don’t understand the german cover. It looks like they wanted something similar to the original cover but they failed miserably. The lithuanian is just weird and I don’t understand how this cover relates to the book itself.

So this is it, this week Book Traveling Thursdays. What did you think of these covers? Tell me in the comments 🙂 .

3 Days, 3 Quotes Challenge #2: Day 3

3days3quotes

Hi guys! Today is the last day of the 3 Days, 3 Quotes Challenge. Thank you again Lara @katnisspotterbooklover for tagging me to do this challenge :). If you want to see the quotes for day 1 and day 2 click here and here. If you want to see my first 3 Days, 3 Quotes Challenge for day 1, 2 and 3 click here,  here and here.

The Rules:

1. Thank the person who nominated you.
2. Post a quote for 3 consecutive days (1 quote for each day).
3. Nominate three new bloggers each day. (I’m not tagging anyone because I think that a lot o people did this already. If you haven’t and want to do this challenge tell me in the comments and I tag you 🙂 )

Today I’m bringing you a quote from one of my favorite book series, The Infernal Devices. I honestly don’t know why I only decided to use a quote from this series now especially because Tessa and Will are amazing and are such bookworms.

What do you think of this quote? I hope you liked the quotes I’ve chosen to the 3 Days, 3 Quotes Challenge 😀 .

T5W – Book Series I Wish Had More Books

t5w

It’s that time of the week again when I bring you the Top 5 Wednesdays, created by gingerreadslainey. If you want to know how T5W works you can go to the Goodreads group by clicking here. This weeks theme is Top 5 Book Series I Wish Had More Books. There aren’t a lot of series that I wanted to have more books because most of the series that I’ve read had a great closure but I was able to find a few for this top. So let’s start this list.

5. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before – Jenny Han

If you’ve read my review for P.S. I Still Love You (here) you might know that I had a few problems with the book but I would love to read something that was years later and mainly from Kitty’s POV because I loved Kitty and she was my favorite character in the series.

4. Anna and the French Kiss – Stephanie Perkins

I think that this series is perfect to have more books. We could have one book from Meredith’s POV or even Calliope. It would be pretty cool and we could hear more about the other characters again.

3. Shatter Me – Tahereh Mafi

Ok… I’m going to be honest here. I just need Warner back to my life so a few more books in this series would be great and I think that Tahereh would find the perfect story to tell next.

2. The Night Circus – Erin Morgenstern

Technically this is not a book series, it’s a stand alone but I would love to read how the circus is a few years later from Bailey’s POV or even better, a prequel from Tsukiko’s POV. I would do anything for a prequel.

1. Harry Potter – J. K. Rowling

Well, I haven’t finish Harry Potter yet but seeing that I started this year it’s pretty good that I only have two books left. However it’s not like I don’t know what’s going to happen, I saw the movies. I think that it would be great to have a prequel about the Marauders or even a sequel about the children. And I promise that I wouldn’t wait so long to read them as I did with the Harry Potter series.

t5w Book Series You Wish Had More Books

These are some of the book series I wish had more books. What about you? Which books did you included in your top? Tell me in the comments.

3 Days, 3 Quotes Challenge #2: Day 2

3days3quotes

Hi guys! Today is day 2 of the 3 Days, 3 Quotes Challenge. Thank you again Lara @katnisspotterbooklover for tagging me to do this challenge :). If you want to see yesterday quote click here.

Today I decided to choose a quote from one of my auto-buy authors. I have this thing with Nicholas Sparks and I’ve read all of his books. I’ve been like this since I was 16 years-old and I still try to read his book every time he releases one. For today I decided to choose a quote that has been in my life since the day I read and watched A Walk to Remember. I just love this quote and every time I watch the movie I say it with Shane West just because.

What do you think of this quote? I’ll be back tomorrow with another amazing quote from an amazing book for the last day of the 3 Days, 3 Quotes Challenge 😀 .

For this first day I decided to choose a quote from The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon. I read this book in the beginning of the year and it was amazing. Not only it’s an amazing book but it also has amazing quotes so I had to use one of these quotes for this challenge.

The Bone Season Quote

What do you think of this quote? I’ll be back tomorrow with another amazing quote from an amazing book 😀 .

Blog Awards -Siblinghood (Sisterhood) of the World Bloggers Award

Blog Awards

Hi guys! Today I bring you more Blog Awards. I have a few blog awards and tags that I haven’t done yet so I’m trying to catch up. If you tagged me or nominated me for anything don’t worry I’ll end up answering it 🙂 . I was nominated to the Siblinghood (Sisterhood) of the World Bloggers Award by Emily @ The Little Book Affair so thank you Emily for the nomination 😀 .

Logo designed by Summer over at xingsings

Rules:

  • Thank blogger who nominated you, linking back to their blog
  • Put the award logo on your blog
  • Answer the 10 questions sent to you
  • Make up 10 new questions for your nominees to answer
  • Nominate 10 blogs

Questions:

1. Has your blogging experience changed you as a person/reader?

The only thing that changed is that know I talk more about books because I’m able to share my opinions with other bloggers.

2. If you could be best friends with any fictional character(s) who would it be and why?

I would love to have Tessa Gray as my friend because she’s a bookworm and she’s great. Also, I would have will, Jem and Magnus in my life if we were friends 🙂 .

3. If your book boy/girlfriend suddenly came to life and knocked on your front door, what would you do?

I would probably be looking to him awkwardly and don’t talk at all. It would be a really weird and awkward situation, believe me 😛 .

4. Do you follow any other blogs besides book blogs? (ex. food blogs, travel blogs, etc.)

I follow a few DIY blogs and also a few fashion/beauty blogs (even when I’m the worst when I’m trying to do my own make-up).

5. Do you have any pets?

Technically I don’t have any because I had to take my dog Jimmy (who is 11 years-old) to my grandma’s house 3 years ago when I moved because I can’t have pets in the place where I’m living now. But he’s still alive and I visit him every time I go to my hometown.

6. Nook or Kindle? If you don’t use an eReader then hardcover or paperback?

I don’t have any of this. I have a Kobo  that is sold in FNAC because two years ago they did a sale in they’re e-readers and my mom bought it as my christmas present for 35 euros instead of the normal 80 euros that it would cost and I loved it and use it almost every day.

7. Do you keep the dust jacket on your book when you read?

I don’t have a lot of hardcover books but when I’m reading one I take the dust jacket off because I almost ruined one a few years ago and I learn from my mistakes 😀 .

8. Coffee or tea?

I don’t like coffee. The only way I drink coffee is in lattes and it’s what I drink every day at breakfast but between coffee and tea I like tea a lot more (especially the Vanilla Caramel tea).

9. Do you own any bookish goodies, such as pins, jewelry, etc.?

I don’t even thought that I wanted too.

10. Favorite flavor of ice cream?

This might seem plain to a lot of people but I love vanilla ice cream mainly because I love vanilla in everything that is either sweet or a desert.
