Book Traveling Thursdays #52 – National Book Lovers Day!

Today is thursday which means that is Book Traveling Thursdays, a weekly meme created by me and Danielle @ Danielle’s Book Blog. This weekly meme consists in picking a book related to the weekly theme that is announced in the group Goodreads page (if you want to join click here) at the beginning of each month. After that you can write a blog post where you explain why you choose that book and choose different covers from different countries. To make it a little bit easy you are going to choose different editions of the original cover, the cover from your country, your favorite cover, and your least favorite cover.

Book Recommendations: Young Adult Contemporary | Part I

Hi guys! It’s time for a few more book recommendations and the theme for today is Young Adult Contemporary Novels. I love contemporary so much that when I was preparing this list I had 15 books to recommend. Because of that I decided to split this in 3 different posts that are going to be uploaded in the next few weeks. If you are used to read contemporary you know that there is this side of contemporary that deals with some difficult themes like mental illness, abuse and others. Because I think that these books are so powerful I wanted to share with you some of my favorite novels that feature one or more of these themes.  So let’s start these recommendations.

Book Covers Around the World #7

Today I bring you Books Covers Around the World again. If you don’t know what this is, basically is me giving everyone a reason to look to beautiful (and sometimes not so beautiful) covers of the same book but in different countries. Today’s book is I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson. This is an amazing book and if you want to see my review you can click here. Let’s start looking for amazing covers.

USA

This cover is beautiful. I love how colorful it is and how the font is placed and everything. I absolutely love this cover and I think that a lot of people too because this is the cover that is used in most of the countries where the book was released. This could be easily my favorite cover for this book but you will see that it’s not.

UK 

In the beginning I didn’t like this cover that much mainly because I don’t like that yellowish orange. However this cover started growing on me and now I like it. Once again I love the font and also the sun design. It’s a pretty cover and I like it even with that color.

Portugal

Ok… I’m going to be honest here. This is the only reason why I decided to choose this book this week. I love this cover so much that I thought that everyone should see it. And I’m not saying this because I’m portuguese. I normally don’t like the portuguese book covers but this one is just stunning. I like that is similar to the original cover but at the same time different. Basically I love this cover and is my favorite I’ll Give You the Sun cover.

Sweden

I don’t like this cover at all. It’s weird and for me it reminds me a coloring book which is weird. I think that they could have done so much better. However I kinda of understand the concept and I think that this cover might be related to the plot. But I still don’t like it.

Slovakia

I can understand that they were trying to re-create the UK cover but for me they failed. I think that this cover is weird and I don’t like. Once again they could have done so much better but they didn’t.

Review:

This was the first book I’ve read that was written by Jandy Nelson and I can tell that I really liked it. This book was beautifully well written and I liked the characters and the fact that the book was told by the perspective of the twins. I also liked that Noah’s point of view was told from the time they were 13 years-old and Jude’s from when they were 16. This is especially good because it let’s us understand what happened in the past and why the twins were not talking to each other in the present when they were so close in the past. Another interesting thing was the fact that in the end all the stories are interconnected and everything is explained. My only problem with this book is that in the beginning it’s really slow and it may become a little bit boring but with the development of the story it becomes a really great book.

Overall this is a great book and if you like to read contemporary coming of age books you should read I’ll Give You the Sun. Not only the story is amazing but the characters are also great and it is really interesting to see their development during the book and how all the characters are interconnected in different ways.
