T5W – Series That Got Worse with Each Book/Season

t5w new header

It’s that time of the week again when I bring you the Top 5 Wednesdays, created by gingerreadslainey and hosted by Sam @ThoughtsOnTomes. If you want to know how T5W works you can go to the Goodreads group by clicking here. This week theme is Series That Got Worse with Each Book/Season:

– I opened this topic up to TV as well (which T5W is always open to by the way if you can’t think of book answers), but I think this topic is especially good for books and TV. What series started out strong but got increasingly worse with each book? –

I’m going to be honest here, normally I’m quite lucky and most of the series I read/watch get better with each book/season. Unfortunately that doesn’t happen all the time and there are some books or TV shows that got worse on my opinion and I even stopped reading/watching some of them because of that. Once again, I’m not going to talk about my choices but I have one thing to say about on of my picks today… I refuse to acknowledge a certain series finale of a certain show that I used to love. THAT EPISODE DIDN’T HAPPEN OKAY?? So here are some of the Series That Got Worse with Each Book/Season:

These are some of the Series That Got Worse with Each Book/Season in my opinion. What about you? What did you include in your tops this week?

  1. I haven’t watched the entire “HIMYM” series, but I have heard so many negative things about the series finale! I honestly couldn’t think of much for this week’s T5W so I’m not participating, as I don’t watch a ton of TV and I mostly read standalones. Two TV series I can think of though are both ABC Family (now Freeform) shows: “Chasing Life” and “Young and Hungry.” I think they went on longer than they should have, especially “Chasing Life”…although they cancelled it at a really awkward point in the series so my husband and I were put off by that. “Young and Hungry” just…well, it just stopped being funny. It seemed as if the writers were just running it into the ground.

  2. Hi Catia.
    ‘Battlestar Galactica’ {not the one from the seventies} was the greatest thing on tv ever for the first two and a half seasons. Then Hollywood had a writers union strike. The show never recovered. They ended with five seasons {I think}. It was promised in the openiing credits for the first four years that they had a plan. We the fans expected a proper arc, but the series ended in a haphazard mess.
    ‘Arrow’ was fantastic in its first season, but has dropped into severe mediocrity.
    ‘Gotham’ struggled with its story-telling for its first two and a half seasons, but now, has finally found the right balance.
    Happy Reading and Watching!

    Crass self-promotion alert!
    {I am an author. I have a book series with ten novels to date. I have developed my style of writing over the course of the series. Some people may think that my writing has gotten better, and some may think it has gotten worse. I like to think that it has improved.}

  3. Ugh I hated Divergent. I actually didn’t mind the first book, but I hated the second one so much. I never saw the movies, either. The Selection has always been a guilty pleasure of mine, but for sure, those books just kept getting worse and worse. I haven’t read or watched the rest of these though.

  4. I agree with Divergent. But I can’t say the same for the others, since I haven’t read or seen them. But Teen Wolf has been on my radar for a long time, but I just keep hearing about how bad it is now and makes me not want to start watching.

  6. What a shame! I loved the Divergent series, and I liked the ending. It was kind of obvious that it would happen like that haha I have done a review of the saga, if you wanna check it out 🙂
