It’s that time of the week again when I bring you the Top 5 Wednesdays, created by gingerreadslainey and hosted by Sam @ThoughtsOnTomes. If you want to know how T5W works you can go to the Goodreads group by clicking here. This week theme is Most Unlikable Characters. The characters are not villains. We have to choose protagonists or side characters that we were supposed to like but in the end we didn’t like them at all. While I normally like everyone one there are a few characters that I didn’t like that much and those characters are my picks for this week.
1. Mark Blackthorn – The Dark Artifices by Cassandra Clare
Here’s the thing, I don’t hate Mark and I think I might like him in the next few books but I still don’t know how I feel about him. First of all, I still don’t trust him. I really hope I’m wrong and he’s a good guy but I can’t trust him right now. Secondly, I don’t like the way he acted towards Jules most of the time. I can see where he was coming from but it doesn’t mean that I have to like it.
2. America Singer – The Selection by Kiera Cass
I’m pretty sure this will be a common name in a lot of posts today. I can’t deal with America Singer. It’s so bad that I gave up in the series after The Elite. I just couldn’t deal more with her indecision about things (when it was clear what she wanted) and I really don’t like her. The good thing about not finishing the series: I don’t have to deal with her daughter Eadlyn. I heard she’s worse than America and I would probably hate her… a lot.
3. Kayla Cannon – Impossible Love by Kimberly Readnour
I think I might be getting too picky about characters because I’ve been hating characters that almost everyone else that has read the book loves and Kayla Cannon is one of those characters. I didn’t like that girl at all. I’m sorry but I can’t like a girl who changes her mind about something just because she sees a hot guy with great abs. I also can’t deal with all the unecessary drama that she created. Everything would have been easier if she had talked about important things with her boyfriend instead of only thinking about how hot he was and how much wanted to have sex with him. Worst of all, I can’t deal with a girl who forgets about her sick mom just because she’s busy with a guy she just met. I hated (I also hated Kai but not as much). If you want to see more reasons why I don’t like Kayla and this book you can read my review here.
4. Britta and James – Lessons of the Heart by Jodie Larson
This is another example of “Cátia is getting too picky for her own taste” XD. Almost everyone that read this book loved it. Almost everyone loved the characters… I hated the characters. Britta was immature as hell and did some really stupid and mean things. James was creepy as hell and, I’m sorry, but stalking your student to another city and get a room in front of her room is wrong. Their relationship was stupid and those two couldn’t control each other at all. Let’s just say that I hated them and that ruined the book for me. I could go on with reasons why I don’t like Britta and James but this post would be too long. If you want to know more you can read my review here.
5. Emma Woodhouse – Emma by Jane Austen
Let me start by saying something, I love Jane Austen and I’ve read all of her books with one exception… Emma. I tried, I really did but I really don’t like Emma and I can’t deal with her so I gave up on reading this book… twice. I just can’t make myself finish it and the only reason for that is the fact that I don’t like the main character. I even tried to watch the movie. You want to know what happened? I couldn’t finish it because, once again, I didn’t like Emma at all.
These are some Most Unlikable Characters. What about you? Which characters would you include in your top? 😀
I can tell America is going to be on so many lists this week! Good choice.

Thanks 🙂
I think the same. A lot of people had problems with her.

This is such an interesting post! Usually it’s like top favourites or something! Do you mind if I write a post like this on my blog? 🙂

It’s not really my idea. I just did what this week’s theme asked :D. But you can write it if you want to. Can’t wait to see it 😀

Emma is such an unlikable character. I love her snark, but I don’t like her as a character. She’s so annoying with her constant remarks about other people’s lives and thinking she is always right -__-.

I agree and that’s why I had to stop reading that book. It was so frustrating to read that

I actually totally agree with you about Mark! And we all know he’s not going to be pleasant with this whole Emma/Jules “what is happening right now” situation in the next book. Oh, and the temptation to put 80% of The Selection characters is real…

Right? I want to like Mark but I can’t right now, especially after the last page of LM.
Yeah, most of the characters in The Selection are so unlikeable

America also made it to my list. I hate how she was with both of them… She was so annoying.

You know I agree with you in few of those, but even though I agree that mark is unlikable, I still love him 😊

I still don’t know how I feel about Mark. I don’t want to dislike him but it’s difficult.

I hope so too! I blame Sarah J Maas, since it started after I marathoned all of her books XD

Ohhhh… I can see why you would be in a reading slump. I’m planning on reading HoF and QoS soon so I hope I won’t get in a reading slump because of her awesomeness

I hated America Singer, she was such an idiot. I don’t know how so many people like her.

In the beginning I kind of liked her but in the end I was just over it.

Haha I can see why so many people hated America, but while I didn’t love her I didn’t hate her. Her indecisiveness WAS annoying, but not enough for me to hate her I guess. I just felt pretty meh about her

I didn’t hate hate her… I just can’t deal with her indecisiveness especially because it was so obvious who she would choose.

Haha yes! I mean, how can you consider Aspen, especially when Maxon exists?? And it was just a bit ridiculous that it took her three books to choose. I get that she needed some time to get over Aspen and their breakup, but the fact that the love triangle was still a thing in The One was just ridiculous lol

Right?? Maxon was the best thing in those books. How could she even consider Aspen for 3 books??
