It’s that time of the week again when I bring you the Top 5 Wednesdays, created by gingerreadslainey and hosted by Sam @ThoughtsOnTomes. If you want to know how T5W works you can go to the Goodreads group by clicking here. This week theme is Settings You Want to See More Of. I almost didn’t participate this week because I didn’t know what settings I should choose and because I had no ideas but in the end I got a few settings that I would love to see more and I ended up writing this post. Here’s my picks for this week:
Greek Mythology
I love greek mythology and I love retellings so I would love to read more books that were retellings of greek mythology. Something like ACOMAF that was a retelling of Hades and Persephone. How awesome would it be if we had more books like that?
Scotland
It’s not a secret that I love Outlander and that I love Scotland so I would love to read more books set in Scotland. It would be even better if it was set in the 1700s.
1920s
I love the 1920s. The fashion is amazing and so is the music and all the parties and because of that I would love to have more books set in the 1920s. Something like The Great Gatsby style. I love that book and I would probably love almost every book set in the 20s.
Russian Empire
One of my favorite parts of A Thousand Pieces of You was when Marguerite and Paul were in the Russiaverse. The Russiaverse was kind of like the Russia Empire and I loved it and because of that I need more books with that setting.
Japan
Japanese culture has always fascinated me and I think it would be an amazing setting for books. I would read that without any doubt, especially if it was in the 1800s and if it had geishas or samurai. I need a book with this setting now.
These are some Settings I Want to See More Of. What about you? What settings would you like to see more in books? 😀
I have to agree with you on Greek Mythology and Scotland. Those two themes don’t get nearly as much play as they should.

Right? I would love if these themes were more used in books

Absolutely! Come 2017 maybe that will happen more.

These settings are rarely used! I’d love to see books set in Australia.

They are just as good, I’m going to have to start planning ahead because some take a bit of thought lol

I’m completely with you on Greek Mythology! I’d love to see more books connected to it. Have you read Awaken by Meg Cabot? That’s another Hades and Persephone retelling and it’s amazing. 😊

I never heard of that one. I might need to add that one to my TBR

Ohh Scotland! It’s funny, I can’t think of a single book set there now that you pointed this out. I would LOVE to have a book exploring Scotland.

I know that the series Doon is set in Scotland but I never read it and I don’t know what is about

Oh I didn’t read it either, might have to check it out 🙂

Yes. Yes to all of these! I especially wish there were more that took place in the ’20’s and in Scotland.

I’d definitely be down for the 20s and Scotland as well … although maybe not together. I prefer my 20s spent in America.

20s in America is probably one of the best things ever

I so agree on Greek mythology! It’s one of my favourite topics and I love Rick Riordan vor the Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus books.

I never read those and for some reason I regret it. I would probably love it if I had read it a few years ago

What is it with people wanting more books set in 1920’s, I’ve seen this on several lists and I don’t get it. Maybe it’s because I’m not American?
As for Japan, I’ve read several books set there this year and I can’t say I fall in love in any of them, but there was one pretty good one – “Greeth”. But it’s set in more of a dystopian-future setting.

I’m not American too. I loved The Great Gatsby and the 20s setting. That’s why I would love to read more books with that settings.
I think I only read one book that was set in Japan and I loved it too. That’s why I would like to try more
