Today is thursday which means that is Book Traveling Thursdays, a weekly meme created by me and Danielle @ Danielle’s Book Blog. This weekly meme consists in picking a book related to the weekly theme that is announced in the group Goodreads page (if you want to join click here) at the beginning of each month. After that you can write a blog post where you explain why you choose that book and choose different covers from different countries. To make it a little bit easy you are going to choose different editions of the original cover, the cover from your country, your favorite cover, and your least favorite cover.
This weeks theme is Yesterday was International Children’s Day!! Choose a book you would read in your childhood if you could go back in time. There are a few books I would like to have read on my childhood and one of those books is The Chronicles of Narnia. I read the first 4 books a couple of years ago and I think it would have been even better if I had read this when I was a kid. So let’s see a few covers:
Original Cover:
I’m not sure if this the original cover but according to Wikipedia it is and I’ll believe it for now (even if we can’t trust Wikipedia most of times). For a book that was released years and years ago the cover is not bad. I kind of like. It’s simple and it has a cute illustration. I think it’s a good cover.
Cover from my Country (Portugal):
I have no idea if this book was released in Portugal before the movie or not but if it wasn’t that might be one of the reasons why I didn’t read these books on my childhood. I love this cover. I love the movies (unlike most of the people) and the movie posters and it’s a great cover (also can we talk about how William Moseley is in this cover? XD)
Favorite Covers:
As I said before I really like the movie tie-in. I also like this second cover. It’s simple but still beautiful. I really love this collection. The last one is a little bit different but I like it anyway and I love the fact that Mrs. Tummus is on the cover.
Least Favorite Covers:
The first cover is just too weird. I know that it’s the tv show cast but the fake lion makes everything weird and I don’t like it. The second one I just don’t like because I don’t like illustration chosen to the cover. Now let’s talk about the last one. The publisher knows that this is a children’s book right? Why would they make a cover with a real lion. If I didn’t know that this was a book cover I would think that it was some kind of documentary about lions.
So this is it, this week Book Traveling Thursdays. What did you think of these covers? Tell me in the comments 🙂
your last bad cover looks like a documentary on National geographic, eheh

lmao at the last cover, it’s like they just read the first two words of the title and thought it would be perfect

LOL the last one is terrible, it’s like they didn’t even try, they just googled “lion” and called it a day. I read this book when I was around 11-12 and I can’t remember thinking very much of it, but I was reeeeally obsessed with the BBC tv series. I even bought it on DVD as an adult for nostalgia’s sake. So that one cover gave me childhood flashbacks hahaha ❤

They could have done so much better without trying to look like a documentary. I never watched the tv show but it’s cool that the cover gave you childhood flashbacks 😀

The show was really really good to me as a child, but when you watch it today you REALLY notice it was made in the 80s LOL. It’s still really charming though, I usually watch it around Christmas :’)

That’s just like any 80s movie or tv show. Sometimes I watch 80s movie and its so noticiable that it’s something from the 80s XD

Aw I absolutely love The Chronicles of Narnia! I read all seven books when I was around ten and I always get a bit nostalgic when I think about them. Loved your choices for favorite covers! I hadn’t seen the one with Mr. Tumnus before but it looks great!

I feel like I read these at some point in my life but it might be that having watched the movies make me feel that way. Totally agree with your favorites!
