It’s that time of the week again when I bring you the Top 5 Wednesdays, created by gingerreadslainey. If you want to know how T5W works you can go to the Goodreads group by clicking here. This week theme is Disappointing Eye Candy. This means that today’s theme is beautiful books that I didn’t like. Let’s see some of the books that made this list 🙂
5. Shattered Blue (The Light #1) by Lauren Bird Horowitz
This book has a beautiful cover. Just look at it! However I didn’t like it at all and I’m still trying to finish about 3 months after I started. This book is about Faes and that was one of the things that interested me but I just couldn’t get into it. Also, I know that it will have a love triangle and I can’t deal with love triangles right now.
4. Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls #1) by Maggie Stiefvater
Another book that has a beautiful cover but the story itself wasn’t that interesting. I just didn’t like it and I’m not planning on reading the remaining books. However, I do want to read The Raven Cycle that was written by the same author.
3. Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews
By now you should already know how much I didn’t like this book. I know a lot of people like it but it just wasn’t the right book for me. This is one of the rare occasions I actually liked the movie way better than the book.
2. Of Neptune (The Syrena Legacy #3) by Anna Banks
Let me just tell you this, the first two books were amazing. I loved both of them. The covers are gorgeous and this one is not an exception but this book was unnecessary. It didn’t add anything new to the story and it was only used create conflicts between the main characters and keep them away most of the book. I really didn’t like it and it was frustrating.
1. City Love (City Love #1) by Susane Colasanti
Once again, look how gorgeous this cover is. I was really excited to read this book but unfortunately I didn’t like it that much. I didn’t like the characters and the only good thing about it was the descriptions about New York. I still want to read book 2 because this book had a kind of cliffhanger but it’s only because of that.
These are the most Disappointing Eye Candy I’ve read. What about you? Which books would be in your top?
Shiver is one that would probably be on my list as well, mainly because the two main characters in a relationship have the same names as me and my brother, makes it a little more awkward to read! But it’s definitely a series that I won’t be finishing!

That must be really awkward. I don’t think I would read it to if I was in the same situation

I managed to push through the first book by changing his name throughout the whole thing, but it just wasn’t good enough for me to put myself through another book of that!

Totally agree with you on #3!

I am one of those weird people that actually enjoyed Shiver, but then again that was when I was in middle school. I’m planning to re-read it in December to complete the series. Hopefully I’ll like it better than you did haha

I hope you still like it when you re-read it

Oh I totally agree with Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, I despised that book so much but was at the same time so disappointed because so many people told me how good it was and the cover is so cool!

It was the same with me. It was a diappointment because everyone said how good that book was

Yes exactly.

I have Shiver on my TBR, I’m sad to hear you didn’t like it! I really want to read the Raven Boys first, though, all the hype around that series got to me, haha! :p

I didn’t like it but you might enjoy it. I keep hearing that the Raven Boys is amazing and some people say it’s totally different from Shiver. I hope I like it when I read it 🙂

I have the awesome movie cover of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, but when I tried to read it, I just couldn’t get into it! I’ll probably try again, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon…
Great Top 5!
My T5W! 🙂

The movie cover is also beautiful. I hope you have more luck the second time

I forgot all about Me and Earl and the Dying Girl! That one really wasn’t all that I’d hoped it would be!

I was actually writing my post and I thought something like: “I think Kat forgot about this one” XD . We both feel the same way about this book. I was expecting so much more

I totally did forget! I don’t even know where it is on my shelf right now hahaha Every time I write these posts, I look at my shelf for guidance but ever since the rearranging spree, everything is different XD

It’s normal to forget these things. I forgot about The Night Circus in the fandom one. That’s even worse because I love that book XD

TRUE! I was really disappointed in you that time.

I’m was disappointed with myself too. I almost brought the book with me this weekend because it is in my hometown and not where I live now. I’m thinking on re-reading it. It’s been way too long

It is actually one of the few books that I would consider rereading as well! And believe me, that’s so rare!

ME too. I think I only re-read about 2 books

As a cover-judger myself, I hate it when they actually suck inside. Whoops. I guess it’s my own fault for being so judgmental!

I agree with Me and Earl and the Dying Girl so much! Everyone loves it and it was just a giant flop for me.

I agree. I really didn’t like that book

I’m seeing “Shiver” on a lot of lists…I think that’s a sign.

It’s not that good, at least on my opinion

I’ve seen mixed reviews about Me and Earl and the Dying Girl but I agree with you, I was thoroughly disappointed by that book. It really did nothing for me, I almost wondered why I bothered reading it

Me too. I was expecting it to be an amazing book but in the end I don’t know why I read it. I can barely remember what happened

I totally agree with you on Shiver! The cover is absolutely gorgeous — the colors, the design — and yet the book inside was just… not good. But like you, I definitely want to check out the Raven Cycle! Those books have gorgeous covers too, and they’ve gotten RAVING reviews.

I know. The Raven Cycle looks so good and keeps having amazing reviews. I really want to read it 😀

I completely agree with you about Of Neptune. I did read it, but it was such a let down. Like you said, it didn’t add anything to the story. I would’ve much preferred it being a duology.

It would be so much better as a duology. I really liked the first two books but Of Neptunr was not that good

I’ve only read Me and Earl and the Dying Girl from your list – the movie is much better than the book. I couldn’t grasp Greg being 17, he sounded like a 12 year old in the book.

The movie was so much better. I really liked it. It worked really well as a ovie but not as a book. Greg was my main problem in the book too

Honestly, I couldn’t even get through the first few chapters of Shiver. It was just bad. But definitely give The Raven Boys a try, In my opinion, it’s MUCH better.Hope you like it 😀

Whew, I thought I was the only one who disliked Shiver (I DNF’d it). I DNF’d Raven Boys too, but then absolutely loved her book, The Scorpio Races, and it’s one of my top 5 all time favorite books! So weird how that worked out lol.
